Internet Explorer has been rendered useless.

When we came back to one of the computers - unattended - we noticed that there were over 30 IE windows opened, and it kept opening more and it sounded like it was installing something. After rebooting and trying to edit the registry, IE is now useless and riddled with errors.
Any ideas?
