RE: New Computer

The answers depends upon how you will be using the PC. Basic computing? Number crunching? Graphics? Gaming? Other? What applications will you be primarily using?

Both approaches have their merits.

By building a PC you can get exactly the components you want. But you must ensure that they are compatible. Not terribly difficult but something to be aware of. For example, a person who enjoys computer games may prefer to build their own machine to improve the graphics capabilities over a manufacturer's pre-built machines. The warranties will generally follow each individual component's manufacturer.

By purchasing a HP/COMPAQ, IBM, Dell, Micron or other, they do the compatible work for you but you may not always get the best components inside the PC. In addition, within their various PC lines, they use different quality components. The manufacturer's will usually supply extended warranties and a single point for support.

I recommend evaluating your PC needs and priorites and then start shopping.

If you'd like additional advice, feel free to give us a call. We've sold our customers PCs that we've built for them as well as manufactured PCs from HP/COMPAQ, Dell and IBM that meet their specific needs.
